MasterChef Malaysia Madhatter Dessert Cafe

Desserts from the Dessert King himself: MadHatter Desserts

I wanted to try something else for dessert other than Dip n Dip, and Dome. So, after a bit of searching, I came across this dessert place called MadHatter Desserts. The name of the shop and the owner being from MasterChef Asia piqued my interest. I was already on my way when I got to know that the owner Marcus Low is called the Dessert King.

Seating Arrangement

It is a nice dessert cafe in Damansara,KL. As you enter, you will be greeted by friendly cashiers. Could not help but notice a romantic seating arrangement at the side of the counter. In addition to that, it had a nice view with two sofas around a small round table. Other than that, the dessert shop/cafe had long and short tables and gave a clean and nice presentation to people. In the display, you can see very delicious looking dessert pieces in cute shapes and sizes. I have to give the presentation 10/10. The desserts were just too good to look at and I had a hard time choosing.

Unique Dessert Recipes

Various Cakes

You can understand why Marcus named his shop MadHatter after you see the names of the desserts. Not only are they unique, but they also make you wonder what each of them is made of and you wouldn’t be able to help but ask the person at the counter. When you hear Raspberry Rose Lychee or Watermelon Assam Tart, you will think how did Assam make it to dessert? As you read more names, you will know that the owner has some style in using local flavors for his recipe and yet make it so delicious.

The person at the counter suggested Chocolate delice, Chocolate Calamansi, Raspberry Rose Lychee and Claypot Rice. We ordered a few of the cakes but my favorite is Coconut Mango & Pineapple. The texture was so soft and it melts in your mouth. Chocolate Calamansi was good too and the sour part inside was a surprise. Claypot Rice was amazing as you dig in with your spoon and you get to taste hot and cold and warm and gooey taste all at once. Passionfruit-Miso tart looks good and tastes good too and is definitely something I would suggest to try.

About the Owner

Marcus Low, the former finalist of MasterChef Asia was an investment banker and he started making desserts or cakes as a hobby. Unsurprisingly after impressing the judges of MasterChef with his sweet recipes, it helped his dream come to life as it helped him establish MadHatter Desserts. He left his investment banker job to take on his hobby full time. If you have watched MasterChef, you would know that Marcus would always have a headpiece (hat) on screen, so the name of the dessert shop is very relatable on this context too! Mr. Marcus Low is definitely an inspiration for me to take on my hobby as a full time job. Salute to Mr. Marcus and his achievements.

Louis Vuitton collaboration

Louis Vuitton Mooncakes

On September, MadHatter Desserts had a collaboration with Louis Vuitton and presented with too-good-to-look-at mooncakes for the Mooncake Festival. Moreover, the shop has special treats for our special holidays. Like for this Christmas, it had Blue Blue Christmas, Wine, The Tale of a Malaysian Snowman, The Turkey Egg, Pineapple and Christmas Bauble. The Tale of a Malaysian Snowman was out of the world and its combinations were coconut, cherry, pistachio and osmanthus. I mean what can go wrong?

By the way, MadHatter Desserts also take cake orders for the birthdays of your loved ones where you can cheer them with the unique taste of Mr. Marcus. If you are a tourist, you should take this very small trip from KL to this shop and get to taste the unique desserts from this Dessert King and Malaysian MasterChef Finalist.
